Brunswick Foundation Awards $400,000 in Scholarships to 100 Sons and Daughters of Company Employees
LAKE FOREST, Ill., May 31, 2006 – One hundred sons and daughters of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) employees will be getting a little help with their college tuition and fees this year, thanks to the generosity of the Brunswick Foundation.
For nearly 50 years, the Foundation has been awarding scholarships to worthy children of Brunswick employees. For 2006, the Foundation has granted nearly $400,000 in scholarships. Winners represent 29 Brunswick locations in the United States and Canada. Awards provide for either annual support of up to $2,000 or multi-year awards up to a maximum of $8,000 per student.
“Clearly an education is of tremendous importance,” said Adrian W. Sakowicz, Brunswick's vice president – community relations and corporate marketing alliances, and president of the Brunswick Foundation. “Each year, we consider applicants worldwide for the Sons & Daughters Scholarship Program. It is truly Brunswick's privilege to help these fine students pursue their goals.”
Scholarship recipients are selected by an impartial, outside committee comprised of professionals from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis; University of Chicago Graduate School of Business; and Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant's academic record and leadership abilities as demonstrated by extracurricular activities. Financial need is an additional consideration for the single-year awards, and all scholarships can only be used toward a baccalaureate degree.
This year's winners are sons and daughters of employees at 16 Brunswick business units: Attwood Marine, Baja, Crestliner, Hatteras, Land ‘N' Sea, Lowe, Lund, Mercury Marine, Sea Ray, US Marine, Triton, Brunswick Corporate, Brunswick Bowling & Billiards, Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, and Valley-Dynamo.
