Mercury's Pros Claim BASS and PWT Angler of the Year Titles

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Mercury bass pro Skeet Reese and Mercury walleye pro Gary Parsons have won "2007 Angler of the Year" honors in their respective professional fishing categories.

Reese was named Toyota Tundra Bassmaster 2007 Angler of the Year on Sept. 15th after finishing the season as the overall Bassmaster points leader. The season opened in February at the BassMaster Classic in Birmingham, Ala. and culminated Sept. 13th with the Sunshine Showdown on Lake Tohopekaliga of Kissimmee, Fla.

Though he's been a mainstay on the circuit for many years, this marks the first time Reese, 38, has claimed top BASS honors. Reese, a Mercury and MotorGuide Pro since 1999, uses a Mercury 250 hp OptiMax Pro XS backed up by a 36-volt MotorGuide trolling motor.

The week before Reese was crowned by BASS, Parsons claimed his third Angler of the Year title on the Professional Walleye Tour (PWT). The annual PWT circuit consists of four regional and two Super Pro events. The top 20 finishers from the regional events and the top 30 overall anglers are invited to fish the PWT Championship.

Parsons has teamed with Mercury and MotorGuide for more than 15 years. His Tracker Tundra is rigged with a 275 Mercury Verado, a 9.9 hp Mercury Pro Kicker and a 36-volt MotorGuide trolling motor.
