Mercury Marine employees in Juarez, Mexico, celebrate safety milestone

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Employees in Mercury Marine's Juarez, Mexico, facility today celebrated the milestone of one million work hours without a lost-time incident. The facility, which manufactures wire harnesses, has achieved this exemplary safety record for four consecutive years.

In recognition of these accomplishments, Patrick C. Mackey, president of Mercury Marine, and Dustan E. McCoy, chairman and chief executive officer of Brunswick Corporation, parent company of Mercury Marine, presented the facility with the Brunswick Chairman's Gold Safety Award. Additional Mercury Marine executives were on site to help celebrate the achievement.

"I am incredibly proud of this workforce," said Mr. Mackey. "Their quest for excellence is apparent in every aspect of this facility's operation – from their world-class safety record to the outstanding quality of their products."

In conjunction with this award, Brunswick Corporation will donate $10,000 on behalf of Juarez employees to a charitable organization of their choice. The facility has chosen to donate its award to Fondo Unido, an organization similar to the United Way.

To date, Juarez facility employees have achieved more than 1.75 million hours without a lost-time incident. It is forecasted that they will reach 2 million hours with no lost-time incidents by the third week of November 2007.

The Juarez facility has been a part of Mercury Marine for 28 years and employs 800 people. The facility's operations supply wire harnesses built into almost every Mercury outboard and MerCruiser engine. The plant also accommodates a growing list of external wire harness customers, including Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, US Marine, HarrisKayot, Rinker, Life Fitness exercise equipment and Mototron electronics.

A lost-time incident, as defined by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, is an occupational injury or illness that results in an employee being released from work by a physician. In manufacturing, lost-time incidents are measured by the number per 200,000 hours worked, which is roughly equal to the number of hours put in by 100 workers in a year.

Mercury Marine is the world's leading manufacturer of recreational marine propulsion engines. A $2.3 billion division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), Mercury and its 6,200 employees worldwide provide engines, boats, services and parts for recreational, commercial and government marine applications. Mercury's industry-leading brand portfolio includes Mercury and Mariner outboard engines; Mercury MerCruiser sterndrives and inboard engines; MotorGuide trolling motors; Mercury and Teignbridge propellers; MotoTron electronic controls; Mercury inflatable boats; Mercury SmartCraft electronics; and Mercury and Quicksilver parts and oils. In 2007, Mercury Marine's OptiMax engine was once again ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Two-Stroke Outboard Engines in a Tie" by J.D. Power and Associates, and Mercury MerCruiser engines were ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Sterndrive Engines" for the second year in a row.
