David Foulkes named vice president, research and development for Mercury Marine
FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Mercury Marine has named David Foulkes as the
company's vice president of research and development.
Foulkes, 46, joins Mercury with more than 20 years of engineering experience;
the last 17 years were spent in a variety of significant engineering and
management positions with Ford Motor Company in Europe and the U.S.
In this role, Foulkes will lead Mercury's engineering teams in analyzing
technological trends and developing and delivering products that meet
customer needs.
Foulkes will join Mercury Marine on Oct. 29, and will work at the company's
world headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wis.
During his tenure at Ford, Foulkes was responsible for the development of a
variety of gasoline and diesel engine-system technologies, alternative fuel
and powertrain projects, racing applications and vehicle integration activities,
including Ford's first in-house direct-injected gasoline engine, six-speed
transmissions; and next generation I4, V6 and V8 engines, transmissions and
all-wheel-drive systems. His product program leadership stretched from
inception through launch and included cost and quality responsibilities. He
also chaired a joint industry/government advanced combustion-engine team
as part of the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles Program and led
the development of the diesel powertrain for the Ford Hybrid Vehicle Program.
Foulkes has received three U.S. patents.
Prior to Ford, Foulkes served as an offshore structures engineer for Shell
Exploration & Production and worked for the Ministry of Defense in the UK.

Foulkes holds a bachelor's degree in aeronautics and a master's degree in
structural and fluid mechanics both from Imperial College, London; and a
diploma in management studies from the University of East Anglia in the
United Kingdom.
