Boston Whaler Brings Back Classic Blue with Its 50th Anniversary Boat
EDGEWATER, Fla., Jan. 15, 2008 – Boston Whaler®, evoking the original groundbreaking achievement of its founder Richard T. Fisher, introduced its 130 Sport 50th Anniversary Edition boat at the recent 2008 New York Boat Show. With the same charming blue interior a Whaler® was known for 50 years ago, the new 130 Sport's launch brought back memories of the first mass market introduction of a Boston Whaler that took place at the 1958 New York Boat Show.
The original Boston Whaler 13-foot boat made a huge impression when it was introduced 50 fifty years ago. While its unique unsinkability caused quite a stir, Whaler's hull shape, blue interior, mahogany seats, and overall design also drew a crowd in 1958. The 2008 New York Boat Show launch of the anniversary 130 Sport was no different. Boat enthusiasts of all ages gathered around the new 130 Sport to look at a show standout and to share fond memories of summer fun on the Unsinkable Legend™ years ago.
Being built for a limited time beginning in January 2008, the 130 Sport Anniversary Edition has several standout design elements. While the blue interior is the first anniversary feature to capture attention, the standard white rubrail is reminiscent of the original 13-foot Whaler. Other important features of the anniversary model are the
stainless steel steering wheel with a 50th anniversary logo and the special 50th anniversary placard on the console.
“The Boston Whaler classic blue interior is so recognizable and so well loved by Whaler enthusiasts around the world,” said Boston Whaler President, John Ward. “We responded to the overwhelming requests to bring it back along with other design elements from the original Whaler for a short time to help celebrate our 50th Anniversary milestone.”
Like its sister boat, the 2008 130 Sport with a white interior, Boston Whaler's 130 Sport Anniversary Edition also comes standard with a 40 horsepower Mercury® FourStroke outboard engine, a bow locker, stainless steel side rails, and a galvanized trailer. Notable options include: seat cushions and a bow cushion, a sun top, a swim ladder and a 25 horsepower Mercury FourStroke outboard engine.
Boston Whaler's 130 Sport Anniversary Edition hull number one will be on display at the New England Boat Show in Boston, Mass. at Boston's Convention and Exhibition Center from January 12-20, then from February 14-18 at the Miami Beach Convention Center during the Miami Boat Show.
