Mercury Racing Reintroduces 2.5 EFI Race Offshore Outboard; Limited Production Planned For Fall 2008
FOND DU LAC, Wis., April 24, 2008 – Mercury Racing is pleased to announce the reintroduction of the 2.5 EFI ROS SS (Race Offshore Short Shaft) outboard with a limited production planned for the fall 2008. The engine was discontinued in 2005 with the implementation of stringent EPA and CARB emissions standards which it did not meet.
Production will be based on confirmed orders and the engines will be built one time per year in advance of the following season.
Racing engines do not require emissions certification if they are used solely for competition. The 2.5 EFI ROS SS will be sold direct to known, qualified race teams or through Mercury Racing dealers or OEM boat builders. It is the responsibility of the dealer or OEM boat builder to ensure the eligibility of race teams ordering engines through their business and communicate such information back to Mercury Racing.
The engines will be produced only in the short shaft “SS” 15-inch drive shaft configuration with the 2:1 cut-skeg Sport Master gearcase. Both right-hand and left-hand rotation models will be available. Each model is intended for twin
engine installations. Sales will be limited to a maximum of three engines per registered race boat. A single engine model will not be offered. The price for either model is $25,000 U.S. There are no sales programs and, of course, no warranty for either model.
All engine orders must be received no later than June 2nd, with a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the purchase price. Engines will be delivered by November 28th.
