Team CRC Smokes the Sound

Wins Offshore Super Series Season Opener

FOND DU LAC, Wis., April 1, 2009 – Mike DeFrees of Vancouver, Wash., and throttleman Jeff Harris of Greenville, N.C., piloted Team CRC, a 39-foot MTI catamaran hull powered by twin Mercury Racing 850 SCi race engines coupled with Mercury Racing dry-sump Six drives, to win the Offshore Super Series (OSS) 850 class race Sunday, March 29, in Biloxi, Miss. The race was one of seven featured at the 5th annual Smokin’ The Sound offshore race event.

Billy Mauff of East Setauket, N.Y., and throttleman Jay Muller of Upper Saddle River, N.Y., piloted WHM Motorsports, a Skater catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 850 SCi race engines coupled with Mercury Racing dry-sump Six drives, to finish second. Guy Costa of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and throttleman Ray Delaney of Sarasota, Fla., rounded out the field finishing third in their Mercury Racing 850 SCi-powered Doug Wright catamaran named, Fury.

OSS Cat Lite
The father-and-son team of Mike and George Stancombe of Indianapolis, Ind., accomplished a Smokin’ The Sound three-peat in Lucas Oil (formerly known as Peppers Racing), a Skater 368 catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines coupled with Mercury Racing dry-sump Six drives and Mercury Racing CNC machined sterndrive propellers. TeamPropStop.net, Popeyes Famous Chicken, All Jacked Up, and Amsoil/AMF rounded out 2-5. All were powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI sterndrive engine packages.

OSS Vee Lite
Mark and Jenni Dunbar of Highlandville, Mo., piloted Under Destruction, a 30-foot Phantom hull powered by a single Mercury Racing 525 EFI engine, to win the OSS Vee Lite competition. Imco, Typhoon, Pirate Racing and Pig Iron rounded out 2-5. All were powered by single Mercury Racing 525 EFI engine packages.

Brett Lee Furshman of Coral Springs, Fla., and Billy Glueck of Osprey, Fla., piloted Miccosukee Indian Gaming, a 38-foot Fountain hull powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines coupled with Mercury Racing dry-sump Six drives, to win the OSS Vee race.

OSS Cat Outboard
Powered by twin Mercury 2.5 EFI Race Offshore outboards, Miccosukee Indian Gaming (formally known as TNT Racing), a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran with Paul Whittier of Yarrow Point, Wash., behind the wheel and veteran throttleman Gary Ballough of Boca Raton, Fla., on the throttles won the OSS Cat Outboard competition. Stihl Offshore Racing and Fluid Sealing Products rounded out 2-3. All were powered by twin Mercury 2.5 EFI Race Offshore outboards.
