Fort Wayne Honors Brunswick Boat Group’s HarrisKayot for Controlling Industrial Wastewater

FORT WAYNE, Ind., June 20, 2006 – HarrisKayot, a leading builder of pontoons, runabouts and deck boats, was recently recognized by Fort Wayne Mayor Graham Richard, along with 13 other local companies, for being fully compliant with the city's Industrial Pre-treatment Program in 2005.

By pre-treating its wastewater before it is discharged into the city's wastewater collection system, HarrisKayot helps eliminate many of the residual substances that could overwhelm the city's treatment plant, explained James M. “Jimmy” Poiry, president of HarrisKayot.

“We are extremely proud of this recognition for full compliance with the program,” said Poiry. “Helping to improve the environment in which we live and work will continue to be a top priority for HarrisKayot.”

All companies are required by federal law to treat their wastewater, but only some of them, including HarrisKayot, perfectly comply with the law throughout the year, according to Greg Meszaros, director of city utilities for Fort Wayne.

Regulated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Fort Wayne's Industrial Pre-treatment Program requires vigorous monitoring and reporting.

“High performance partnerships with the private sector are producing positive results for our community,” said Mayor Richard. “By being innovative and committed to water quality, we are more competitive in gaining and retaining jobs.”
