Mercury Racing Introduces New Sterndrive Engine Package to European Union Countries
New EU662 SCi Joins 600 SCi in Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) Exhaust Emissions Compliance

FOND DU LAC, Wis., Feb. 15, 2007 – Mercury Racing is pleased to announce the introduction of the all-new EU662 SCi sterndrive engine package. The engine, featuring Mercury Racing's revolutionary NXT1 transmission and drive, was developed exclusively for sale to all countries that fall under the European Union's CE Recreational Craft Directive (RCD). The 662 SCi joins the 600 SCi, certified in the fall of 2006, in meeting the requirements of the RCD, including the recent 2003/44/EC amendment for exhaust emissions. The engines also meet requirements of the EU's Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive.

Meeting the combination of these directives enables the 662 SCi and the 600 SCi engines to be CE marked.

The 2003/44/EC amendment to the RCD consists of strict exhaust emissions and noise regulations for both two-stroke and four-stroke recreational marine engines. Regulations for compression ignition and four-stroke spark ignition engines were initiated on Jan. 1, 2006. Two-stroke engine regulations will be implemented on Jan. 1, 2007. OEM (original equipment manufacturers) boat builders must certify that their boats conform to the RCD noise requirements.

Mercury Racing's 662 SCi and 600 SCi are the only high-performance marine engines that meet EU emissions requirements for sterndrive engines. The 662 SCi is the highest horsepower marine engine certified for sale in the EU. The availability of both the 600 SCi and the 662 SCi provides OEM boat builders and their European customers two power options with a variety of drive options and gear ratios for virtually any application.

The 662 SCi shares all of the game-changing technology of its North American counterpart – the 700 SCi. Engine packages come standard with the NXT1 drive for both close-couple and drive-line installations. The new NXT1 SSM drive, featuring the dry-sump Six drive coupled to the NXT1 transom plate and the dry-sump NXT1 transmission, is available for select hulls that require the drives to be mounted higher on the transom for maximum efficiency and optimal boat performance. The 600 SCi and 662 SCi combine the Mercury-exclusive propulsion control module (PCM) 07 microprocessor with a 3.3 liter Lysholm screw type supercharger, roller camshaft and sequential fuel injection for impeccable idle quality, instant throttle response and unmatched performance throughout the engine's operating range.

The PCM 07 computer also enables individual cylinder control. This ability to optimize fuel, spark timing and knock control independently for each cylinder enhances engine running quality, performance, fuel economy and durability.

The 600 SCi is available with a variety of Bravo One XR drive options and the optional Integrated Transom System (ITS). The legendary dry-sump Six drive is available as well.

The 662 SCi and 600 SCi are both accredited by Mercury Racing's T.E.A.M. (Total Engine Application Management) initiative. The standardized T.E.AM. (for consistency) process ensures proper installation of the engine with factory-specified components, providing maximum performance along with unmatched quality and durability. The engines are only sold to OEM boat builders and dealers who agree to the terms of the T.E.A.M. accreditation process.
