Cummins MerCruiser Diesel Announces QSC8.3-600 Horsepower Engine
(Charleston, South Carolina) - Cummins MerCruiser Diesel has set a new benchmark for power with the QSC8.3 series of diesel engines, by introducing a 600 horsepower marine engine.

The new QSC8.3-600 will offer the highest power density in its engine class. To maintain the high level of durability and reliability customers expect from Quantum Series engine, CMD engineers utilized a larger turbocharger for increased air flow, a new fuel pump to handle higher fuel delivery, a new cylinder head gasket to improve cooling and a new piston design to handle the increased power density.

“For both new installs and repowers, our customers have found the QSC series to be genuinely user friendly and certainly much quieter, cleaner and more fuel efficient than diesel engines of five years ago,” says Gary Dickman, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Cummins MerCruiser Diesel. “We are excited about the high level of interest in this new engine rating and orders for the new 600 will be accepted beginning in February.”

The new QSC8.3-600 is EPA Tier 2, IMO and RCD emissions certified. SmartCraftTM technology is also offered for engine information management and control. Transfer of information between the engine and vessel sensors to the helm is accomplished over a datalink. This significantly reduces the amount of wiring in the engine room and at the helm. The decrease in wiring promotes ease of installation and increases the reliability of the electrical system by reducing the number of terminals and wires that can corrode.

The SmartCraftTM system allows the capability for inputs from the engine along with many other boat systems, such as fuel tank levels, fuel burn, vessel speed, GPS, steering (rudder position), water depth and temperature. By incorporating fuel consumption, tank level and vessel speed, a captain can quickly assess boat range and fuel economy. SmartCraftTM constantly monitors engine performance parameters, providing instant diagnostics and operations data at the helm. Based in Charleston, South Carolina (USA), Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is responsible for designing, manufacturing and providing reliable after-sales support worldwide for marine products. CMD offers a broad range of power, with available engine ratings from 115-715 HP for recreational applications and 76-715 HP for commercial use. Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is a joint venture between Cummins, Inc. and Mercury Marine and can be found on the internet at www.cmdmarine.com.
