Champion Crowned at Third Annual Brunswick Summer Classic Tournament

MUSKEGON, Mich. Sept. 21, 2009 – The third annual Brunswick Summer Classic Tournament recently concluded at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick, N.J.

The event, which is held at the site for the Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open, was brought to the East Coast in 2007 in an effort to support competitive and tournament bowling in that area.

For the third year in a row, Brunswick guaranteed the main event prize funds for first through fourth place, with $10,000, $5,000, $2,500 and $2,500, respectively. Three divisions were offered this year: ladies; ages 49 and under; and ages 50 and over.

Tommy Semiz, who owns and operates Tommy Semiz Pro Shop inside Brunswick Zone Carolier, served as the tournament director for the Brunswick Summer Classic. Semiz also successfully operates other tournaments under "World Match Games.” Assisting Semiz in the coordination of the tournament was Buzzy Goodman, who operates the Northeast Senior Challenge, a senior bowling tournament series.

A total of 115 bowlers signed up for the main event qualifying. Anthony Pepe, Astoria, N.Y., defeated Pat McGainey, Baltimore, Md., with 224-182 in the title match to win the $10,000 top prize. McGainey earned $5,000 for second. John Furey, Freehold, N.J., and Steve Tripp, Garwood, N.J., finished in third and fourth both earning $2,500 from Brunswick.

Brunswick presented its latest pro-performance ball, the Siege™, to all bowlers who paid to enter the main event.

The tournament included two Friday night sweepers and a Saturday night super sweeper. The winners of the Friday sweepers were JD Santalucia, North Brunswick, N.J., with a score of 713, which earned him an $800 prize, and Tim Pfeifer, Cranberry Township, Penn., with 741, and a $700 prize.

The Saturday night super sweeper champion was Joe Stillman, Staten Island, N.Y. Stillman, who defeated Charlie Bruno, Depford, N.J., took home $2,000 as the winner of the three-game sweeper, during which the top 16 advanced to the finals using one-game, head-to-head matches. Bruno earned $1,000 for second.

In addition, to sponsoring the tournament, Brunswick maintained the lanes with the Brunswick Authority22® lane maintenance system. To view the complete results of the tournament, visit brunswickbowling.com.
