Innovating Products

Brunswick and its brands have had a long and proud history of innovation. Our team embraces the challenge to find, develop and leverage innovations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the manufacture and use of recreational boating products and be a leader among sustainable companies.

Products that support sustainability

Mercury Marine’s Avator 7.5e electric outboard, the Veer boat, Navico Group’s Fathom e-Power System, and the Princecraft Brio 2.0 Electric Pontoon Boat are examples of our innovative products that support an electric future in the marine industry.

Engine fuel efficiency improvements

Mercury Marine has a long history of continuous innovation to improve marine engine fuel efficiency, including closed-loop fuel control systems, Advanced Range Optimization, computational fluid dynamics drive systems, advanced lubrication systems, active trim and contra-rotating propellers.

Vessel-level innovations that reduce fuel consumption

With a product portfolio that includes boats, engines and navigation electronics, Brunswick is uniquely positioned to develop and bring to market vessel-level integrated solutions that can improve fuel efficiencies and reduce carbon emissions.

Use recycled or recyclable content

We are proactively seeking opportunities to use recycled or recyclable content in our products, including alternatives for plastics and resins. This is in addition to the annual use of 40 million pounds of scrap aluminum in certain Mercury Marine engines or the use of foam made from 100% recycled plastic bottles for structural cores in Brunswick fiberglass boats.

Avoidance of single-use packaging

Although packaging is a small part of our production, it can add up. Within Mercury Marine, outgoing shipments of many higher horsepower engines are delivered in reusable packaging that is returned for future shipments. Additionally, Navico Group is on a multi-year journey to transition to sustainable packaging for its products.

Supporting adoption of sustainable marine fuels

Adoption and use of sustainable fuels made from renewable organic materials have the potential to dramatically reduce carbon emissions in the marine industry. We are engaging with marine and fuel industry partners to drive the development and adoption of sustainable fuel options for recreational boaters.
